Great! US Travel Warning for Indonesia Lifted

26 May 2008

Effective May 23, US travel warning for Indonesia has been lifted, making the country a prospective destination for more US tourists.

The announcement of this positive decision was made by US Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron R. Hume as stated by in a press release of the Embassy in Jakarta on May 25.

Indeed, Indonesia is a safe country and has made a lot of progress in strengthening security and stability. A democratic country, Indonesia is an important stronghold for global democracy, given its size and achievement in reform.

With the lifting of this travel warning, which was issued in November 2000, there should be more opportunities for closer people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. Tourism, education, social affairs and many other field of cooperation should be further explored and developed.

I do applaud this long overdue decision made by the US, of which also a sign of better point of views on Indonesia's current development.
