Indonesians Blogging in English
21 January 2007
Briefly my friends, this entry refers to A. Fatih Syuhud an Budi Putra, two Indonesian bloggers with their own reputation. Well, to be exact about it, this is more about those Indonesian bloggers who blog in English.
I read the entry by Budi, How the Fatih Syhud Way Plays, and fully agree with him on his view regarding the energy shown by Fatih to encourage Indonesians to blog in the most used-language of the world---English. Fatih is a pro-active Indonesian blogger whou is currently pursuing a PhD in Islamic Studies in a university in India.
Believe it or not, more and more Indonesian bloggers write in English now. In fact, quite a number of them are not only mumbling about something, but logging in quality contents. Yes, that is about time, you may say. Considering the www idea is world-wide, the spirit of connecting globally can only be fully shared through the language accessible to the world itself. As a great country, Indonesia is indeed seriously in need of more citizen-communicators who are eloquent to speak to the world.
That is why it is pleasing to observe the everyday growth of Indonesian globally-connected bloggers. In your blogwalk, you may be amazed to find that numerous good blogs maintained by Indonesians. If you are not that keen to review them one by one, you may just take benefit from Fatih's weekly review of Indonesian English blogs. Several of the best are there dissected and commented by Fatih.
In ending the Year 2006, he even took the pain listing Top Ten Bloggers Indonesia 2006. Suprisingly, he also included this blog (while also referred to my Indonesian language blog Kolom-kolom Agusti Anwar) in this short-list (many thanks for that), stating:
5. Agusti Anwar: The Indonesian Diplomat-Blogger
Indonesian diplomat who blog is not many. Agusti Anwar is one of them. He's not only updating his two blogs relatively regularly, but is also engaging actively in Indonesia blogosphere community. I think, he might consider to urge other diplomat to blog as well.
The Fatih Way of encouragement is certainly appreciated by the Indonesian blogosphere.
Yet, everybody knows that it is not only about the English per se, but more on "content, content, content"---the must-have menu for successful bloggers mentioned in all blogging books. In his above-mentioned post, Budi Putra specifically underscored this content issue as the future of Indonesian bloggers blogging the Syuhud way. We do need bloggers who use English, but more on how they use it for something that counts.
You know what, in the above Top Ten Bloggers list, Fatih Syuhud is not included. You may giggle and refer to that as an ethic issue, whic is surely true.
Or, better, as Budi classified Fatih the star of Indonesian blogosphere, my take is that Fatih may have already transcended above all those ten bloggers he listed. He is the Indonesian roving ambassador to the global blogosphere.
Ok, now let us get on this English blogging business!
